A successful merger and project delivery for Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology
In May 2016, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and Waiariki Institute of Technology merged to become Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology. Toi Ohomai is one of the largest institutes of technology in New Zealand and the largest provider of tertiary education in the Bay of Plenty.
In January 2017, Tribal began consultancy work with Toi Ohomai to support internal resources on a merger project that would see their two ebs Student Management Systems merge into a single ebs Student Management System solution for the post-merger Institution.
On Friday, 1 September 2017, Tribal & Toi Ohomai successfully completed the go-live for the single instance SMS, on budget and on time. Final go-live activities were completed over the weekend of 2 – 3 September and the single ebs™ SMS is now fully operational across all users within the Polytechnic. The merger project involved the successful migration of over 48 million student records from the two systems covering 149 tables of data. The merger project also included the rollout of Tribal’s new staff portal, Ontrack™.
“The successful implementation of the single ebs can be largely attributed to the efforts of a highly skilled, highly capable and motivated project team who worked across sites to bring this project in on time, under budget and in scope. The expertise and commitment from the Tribal NZ consulting team must also be commended. This is the first merger project of this scale to be delivered and positions the organisation well to provide student support and services across our numerous delivery locations”
Andrea Searancke, Corporate Services Project Manager, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology
